In this exciting round robin workshop, each participant will select a weaving structure they would like to learn or explore, from a provided list of structures. This structure list and workshop information is under our member password protected pages.
Each participant will then research their chosen structure, select their yarn and pattern, warp their loom and weave off a small sample prior to the start of the workshop. Each participant will then send a copy of their draft together with a photo of their sample to the Program Coordinator listed on the attachment. This information will be compiled to create a PDF file that will be distributed to all participants. It is recommended that all participants print the PDF before the workshop. Those unable to do so will be charged a printing fee (amount to be determined).
Signups will start at the September 11, 2024 guild meeting. The Monday start date and Wednesday end date were chosen to ensure that the work will be available for all guild members to see on the looms at the May guild meeting. Work will be completed and taken off the loom Wednesday afternoon.

We have partnered with the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers to co-host a workshop featuring internationally renowned fiber artist Ana Lisa Hedstrom.
Direct application of natural dye extracts is a fun and effective application of natural dyes. Working with weld, madder, and cochineal we will mix a mordant paste using alum, soda ash, vinegar and guar gum. A second paste with iron will add dramatic color changes. This paste works with direct application by brushing and stamping, and painting on shibori textures. When the mordant paste is dry the fabric is dyed in an immersion bath. There will be instruction for arashi pole wrapping, Itajime folding and clamping, and mokume stitch resist. We will also make samples with Kakishibu persimmon tannin in direct application. Kakishibu requires no chemicals nor heat to set.
All supplies and several scarves will be provided in the material fee. Students may bring sample size pieces of natural fabrics and printing blocks they may have.
